Steve was best known by his nickname "the crocodile hunter". this was also the name of his most successful show. crocodiles were a big part of his life and they are a large reason for why he became as famous as he did. So without the crocodiles, Steve wouldn't have gotten where he did. but where did the crocodiles come from.

Steve's early life

Hello and welcome back to my blog. in this weeks insert we will be taking a look at the geography surrounding the early life of Steve. I do hope you enjoy reading.
Steve Robert Irwin was born to Lyn and Bob Irwin on the 22nd of February 1962 in Essendon, a suburb in Melbourne in the state of Victoria. Melbourne is the capital of Victoria and is located on the south east coast of Australia. it is the most southerly place on earth with a population that exceeds 1000000 people. It is the second most populated city in Australia failing in comparison only to Sydney.

Here are some stats on the areas  Melbourne brought to u by https://www.britannica.com/place/Melbourne-Queensland.                                                               City of Melbourne, 14 square miles (36 square km); Inner Melbourne, 33 square miles (86 square km); statistical division, 2,971 square miles (7,695 square km). Pop. (2006) City of Melbourne, 71,380; Inner Melbourne, 270,964; Melbourne Statistical Division, 3,592,591.

Wowie what a big place. The city was first build on the mouth of the Yarra river and since then has expanded to the size it is now. He then moved to Queensland in 1970 where he and his family set up the Queensland reptile and fauna park which is now known as Australia zoo. Steve was always involved in animals from an early age. the love for animals and conservation was hammered in by his father who to the delight I assume of some of my Irish readers is of Irish decent. that's right the great Steve Irwin is part Irish. what fantastic news. Anyway, Steve loved animals all his life. on his sixth birthday he received a pet 12 foot long scrub python. A weird gift for most family's but not for the Irwin's. The move to the north east region of Australia known to any fan of the reptilian side of the food chain  as Croc country is home to some of the biggest salt water crocodiles on earth. This is where Steve began to learn the trade he would become so famous for. Crocodile catching, From the tender age of nine Steve was catching small crocs with the over watch of his father.

In the 1980s Steve spent a lot his time living in the remotest parts of North East Queensland catching problem crocodiles that could have been endangering locals or live stock in certain villages for example before they got a poacher or hunter to end the crocs life with a bullet or several. The North East of Queensland is famed for its many picture islands and its long beautiful beaches. After this in the 90s Steve met his future wife Terri who was on holiday from America. they got married in a Methodist Church on the 4th of June 1992 in the church that Terri grandmother used to attend. Small world I guess. Well that's where your wrong. The world is 510020000 km2. Back to Steve, instead of a honeymoon the two embarked on the filming of a documentary. flash forward a year to the release of the documentary and the fan base has exploded, rating are through the roof and the Crocodile hunter, Steve's most successful show was born.

Steve last performance

Hello again to my loyal followers and welcome to my first real insert into this soon to be saga on the life and more importantly the geography of Steve Irwin. Steve was a great man and died in 2006 doing what he loved, filming and being wild animals. At the time he was filming for a show that was not even meant to be focused on him but instead to focus on his daughter Bindi Irwin.(The jungle girl) which still came out and aired, obviously cutting out the horrific moments leading up to Steve's passing. it aired in 2007, one year on from the death and was moderately successful with a lot of viewers tuning in to see what was considered the last piece of work that Steve Irwin was involved in on the TV. it was in season two that Steve was still seen on the seen after his passing and he was always referred to in the present tense as not to unsettle and sadden the target audience of younger viewers in Australia and around the rest of the world. in the show Bindi answers question from viewers in "Bindi's blog" sings and dances with a group of background dancers called  "The Croc Men" but most importantly and the thing that would make her father most proud of her on TV success is that she stills puts across the same core message to her younger viewers that conservation is an integral part of our lives and the lives of the animals we share this planet with and come in contact with on a day to day basis. 31 episodes were released all together with 26 of them coming in the very successful first season and a lesser 5 episodes coming in the second season. it was aired firstly in the US as it had been found out that the key money making market in terms of viewership was in the united states with the second best coming in there native Australia. in the US it was first released in June of 2007 with the Australian showings only beginning in November of 2009. the show was also brought out long side an hour long documentary on Animal planet called My Daddy, The Crocodile Hunter which served as a memorial to Steve and also introducing Bindis new show and her new budding career in general in which she would take after her fathers legacy and try continue his dream for as long as she could.
